It explores through interviews and literature review whether or not this process is constrained by differences in approach. It defines Design for Lean Six Sigma and Design Thinking, but also compares both methods. In addition, it discusses how these are linked to strategy. The biggest challenges to the creation of value during the process of innovation are discussed. A theoretical integration and roadmap suggests the incorporation of two approaches - Design Thinking and Design for Lean Six Sigma - in the innovation process in order to maximize value creation and efficiency. A critique of the proposed integration and tension resolution is presented, according to particular opinions of several professionals in the innovation field. The research determines that design is a priority when innovating. Design for Lean Six Sigma and Design Thinking are indeed connected methods since both are problem solving methods that use learning tools to understand the customer’s needs. Learning, insights and leadership competencies are what give this innovation process speed; while validity of the design and executive guidance towards quality improvement gives it a right direction. In order to be efficient and effective it not necessary to resolve any trade-offs, such as time/cost versus value created, but instead there is a need to apply learning and creativity early in process that will save an innovation project a number of wasteful iterations along the process.show moreshow less
