Mature and developed economies have already learnt how to obtain gains from the interaction with other countries without loosing their identity and reserves of resources. Developing countries face the challenge of becoming part of the global value chain, through the entry of their economies into the global market in terms of capital flows, human talent and the commercialization of products, in a way, that allows them to gain knowledge, stability, growth and a sustainable development. These writing analyses how could be the interaction between the mature German economy and the developing economy of Colombia, if a German company wishes to integrate Colombia in its value chain with a subsidiary. Going from the historic events of Colombia and Germany, through the evolution and continuous change of the habits, cultural patterns and dimensions of the people until the analysis of the motivator factors, the most appropriate leadership styles and the most convenient international assignments for a successful start-up of subsidiary are analyzed. In order to make this writing more realistic, people working in non-executive and executive positions of both countries were interviewed, with the intention to identify how much the employees are influenced by cultural and religious traditions and which are their expectations regarding their bosses and subordinates. Based on that, the author concludes which are the similarities and differences between the two countries; then are suggested some strategies to overcome the differences and take advantage of the similarities. And not only the socio – cultural aspects are taken into consideration, but also the legal framework and the institutions supporting the foreign direct investment in Colombia, either through direct investment or through the stock exchange market. Therefore this writing constitutes an useful tool for the potential German investor, offering him a complete overview about the advantages, opportunities and challenges of investing in one of the best countries to invest in Latin America, with qualified and entrepreneurial people, wishing to grow and improve their quality and perspectives of life.show moreshow less
