• Process-oriented planning approaches are increasingly becoming a subject of discussion in landscape architecture. Publications and articles of the last years are showing raising number of projects dealing with that topic. Following up these trends, we came up to ask ourselves what are the origins of process-oriented planning and what are the strategies this approach is using. Our research is based on the hypothesis that urban open spaces as constitutional elements of urban systems are inevitably influenced by the trends shaping urban environment. Following that assumption we conducted a research with aims to clarify trends shaping contemporary urban systems and reveal strategies and design approaches of process-oriented planning practice in urban open space. Five essays and twenty exemplary projects helped us to reveal connections in understanding of urban systems and planning principals over the fields of architecture, urban planning, urban sociology and landscape architecture. Researching on projects brought us further to understanding and defining the conditions under which process-oriented planning operates and what are the strategies and design approaches of such practise.…

Buchpublikationen und Artikel der letzten Jahre behandeln eine gestiegene Anzahl von Projekten die sich mit dieser Thematik beschäftigen. Diesem Trend folgend, stellten wir uns die Frage nach den Ursprüngen und Strategien von prozesshafter Planung. Unsere Untersuchung fußt auf der Hypothese, daß urbane Freiräume ein grundlegendes Element des städtischen Systems sind und zwangsläufig von den Trends beeinflußt werden, die die Stadt formen. Gestützt auf diese Annahme zielt unsere Untersuchung darauf ab, die Trends die die Stadt formen zu identifizieren und die Strategien und Entwurfsansätze von prozesshafter Landschaftsarchitektur für urbane Räume aufzuzeigen. Fünf Abhandlungen und zwanzig beispielhafte Projekte halfen uns das urbane System und relevante Planungs- und Entwurfsprinzipien in Architektur, Stadtplanung, Stadtsoziologie und Landschaftsarchitektur zu verstehen. Die Untersuchung von beispielhaften Projekten zeigt die Voraussetzungen für prozesshafte Konzepte auf und macht deren Strategien und Entwurfsmethodik nachvollziehbar.…
